Richard Disney completes London Marathon for
Children with Leukaemia
Richard
Disney - founder and MD of hospitality
recruitment company rd resourcing, completed the
2011 London Marathon on Sunday 17th April in aid
of UK charity, Children with Leukaemia.
Following months of training which he managed to
squeeze in around his busy schedule of work and
home life, often going out running late at night
or first thing in the morning, Richard took to
his heels on Sunday and finished the gruelling
26 mile course in a time of 4 hours 52 minutes.
Despite initially planning to run the Marathon
dressed in a waiter's uniform, due to a side bet
he eventually opted for a French Maid's outfit
which ultimately bumped up his sponsorship fund.
"I
actually did it!" he said, after the race. "I
have to say although it's painful I thoroughly
enjoyed the experience so I definitely intend to
wear my maid costume again."
He
added: "The Marathon run was also an amazing
experience. I paced myself carefully - I really
felt the urge to complete it and not let anyone
down. There were some contenders going for glory
and burning out in the heat wave! It's quite
sobering watching people getting stretchered
away and it kept me in check.
"I
thoroughly enjoyed the massive crown support and
I flirted with them quite a lot. I couldn't help
smiling, periodically through gritted teeth, but
the atmosphere was unbelievable. I didn't stop
once and managed to wave my garter belt at the
crowd intermittently the whole way round. This
got a great cheer and managed to boost my
confidence. Luckily I didn't experience 'the
dreaded wall' but had a moment of worry as I was
overtaken by a giant Pikachu."
Richard's fundraising efforts have paid off and
his £2,000 target is about to be smashed.
"Once again thank you for making a difference
for Children with Leukaemia and keep an eye on
this link for the final charity figure."
