Temporary
jobs 'provide vital flexibility'
In a
recent survey carried out by the Recruitment and
Employment Confederation and KPMG, findings show that
contract and
temporary jobs grew at
their fastest rate for nearly three years.
Commenting on the temporary job market, REC chief
executive Kevin Green said that the rise in temporary
jobs "shows how they continue to provide vital
flexibility for UK businesses as well as a valuable
route back into work for job-seekers."
Permanent jobs rise at highest rate for 12 years
The
report by over 400 employment agencies also shows that
recruitment for permanent staff in the UK is rising at
its highest rate for 12 years. The findings claim that
the number of permanent staff recruited last month had
increased at their strongest rate since October 1997.
However, the news comes amid the recent announcement
that the
public sector could face massive
job cuts, as the health services are forced
to find up to £20bn of savings by 2014.
In a
KPMG press release,
head of business services Bernard Brown commented:
"The
jobs market seems to be going from strength to strength.
These figures show that private sector confidence is
returning and that the UK is exiting recession at a
pace."
But he
added: "A lot of the current hiring activity is going on
in the public sector. The public sector recession, which
is clearly on the cards, hasn't hit the jobs market yet
but when it does, the upwards trend we have seen over
the last couple of months may come to a halt."
