Report
finds 25% increase in graduate unemployment
A think
tank report has found a rise in graduate unemployment of
25% last year.
According
to the
BBC, the findings from
the Higher Education Policy Institute state that
graduates out of work (aged under 24) increased by 25%
last year, with males making up 17.2% of the unemployed
number, and women accounting for 11.2%.
However
despite there being larger numbers of male graduates
currently out of work, the research found that men
typically earn higher salaries than women, achieving on
average 50% more money when first employed, and 30% more
after three years.
Possible
workplace discrimination has been partly blamed for this
difference, as the research found that women generally
perform better than men at university. A marked
difference in career choices is also expected to affect
the salaries between men and women.
Graduates currently out of work can contact
rd resourcing for help
finding hospitality work and
catering jobs, for both
temporary and permanent roles.
